Inositol is the key that everyone has been looking for, Happiness. It is found in many healthy foods such as salmon, nuts, pinapple, etc.
But how does Inositol make one happy?
Inositol balances the two most important chemicals in your brain that are responsible for keeping you happy.
What hormones keep you happy?
Serotonin and Dopamine. Think of these two chemicals as little mailmen working for you 24/7. Constantly running around sending messages across different areas in your brain letting it know when to feel happy, accomplished, pleasure, etc.
How does Dopamine Contribute to Happiness?
Dopamine is the 'feel-good' or 'pleasure' hormone that works hand in hand with what’s called the reward system in your brain. Its role is to reward us whenever we engage in activities that enhance our survival—such as eating, drinking water, and reproduction.
For example, when you take that first bite of food after fasting for over eight hours, your brain releases a surge of dopamine, reinforcing that you're doing something essential for survival. Or when you kiss someone for the first time, a massive rush of dopamine floods your system, making you feel on top of the world. It’s as if your brain is saying, 'Amazing! Here’s a treat for doing something right—good job!
What about serotonin?
Serotonin 'the happy hormone' has you feel happier, emotionally secure, calmer, and emotionally focused when its level is balanced. Low serotonin levels lead to anxiety, depression, and physical side effects. On the other hand, high serotonin levels lead to more harmful side effects. Inositol works to BALANCE these hormones because if one is unbalanced, your brain will produce more of the other (serotonin or dopamine), which may lead to illness or even fatal effects if left untreated.
Here’s a brief video to help you gain a deeper understanding of serotonin and why it’s important to keep it balanced.
